The “Government House” is one of the places I must see when I finally do get to Florida! Story I received was that at one time it was apartments, another time a boarding house, another time an old folks’ home and thanks to Google I’ve found out it is housing for a law firm currently. I haven’t done the research to find out when “Grandma” Gray (Annie L. White) bought it, but for a while she did, according to rumor.
This photo is likely in the 40’s, as “Grandma” Gray died in 1951.

According the photo title this was 1944, and appears to be a friend or acquaintance, and possibly the new owner when Grandma Gray sold the property.

Here is a little view of change. I can’t really tell whether this is 70-80’s, but my guess would be somewhere in there, these photos were taken.

Now I have new pix, thanks to the graciousness of Baker and Baker the newest owners. They purchased it in 1986 and this is how it is today (13 Jun 2008)! Obviously they have renovated it wonderfully, and I really can’t wait to see it now;O) Thank you Mr. Baker for allowing us to visit this way.

and that famous porch

and then here’s the “living room” or “parlor”

and a view down the hallway, which shows the detailed renovations, just awesome!

If you have any other history about this building, please let us know.

What wonderful old photographs. And such a beautiful house. It’s such an American house. Just gorgeous.
Thanks, I just love to see it through time, ya know? Hoping I can get current views, that’ll be super.
You touch my heart with your stories, and the photos simply take me back to a simpler time in my own life. A time when all four of my grandparents lived — not far from us. We spent hours on both porches, romping in the yards with cousins everywhere. They took their turns at our house too — and on our front porch. Everyone had one! What beautiful memories.
